There are so many reasons why drinking Rooibos can be beneficial to your health. It's sort of the superfood of teas. It's got a unique sweet flavor. My husband and I have started a nightly regimen of a Rooibos Tea Espresso before bed - as it's the only espresso you can drink and then go to sleep  - no issue.

As I was compiling information for our Indalo's Rooibos infographic about the many benefits of drinking rooibos tea, I thought I would share the details I find out here with you.

ANTIOXIDANTS

Rooibos is a great source of antioxidants which can help neutralize free radicals in the body. It's anti-oxidant properties are similar to Green tea, but without the bitter taste or caffeine. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found aspalathin is MORE POTENT in destroying free-radicals than EGCG (the potent antioxidant found in green tea).

SKIN & HAIR

Rooibos can help with skin and hair health because it contains alpha hydroxy acid. It is also an effective antibacterial thought to help with eczema and acne.

LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

Rooibos tea can help lower blood pressure and increase blood circulation in the body. Also Rooibos tea was shown to reduce the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme in the May 2010 issue of the journal "Public Health Nutrition." This enzyme constricts blood vessels, which raises blood pressure. These results suggest that rooibos tea is good for overall cardiovascular health.

AIDS DIGESTION

Rooibos Tea can help reduce abdominal pain and the occurrence of diarrhea. Researchers in Germany, Pakistan, and Canada explored rooibos unique properties on rabbit intestine tissue to find that rooibos is a good choice for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and gut spasms.

HEART HEALTH

Rooibos can help lower the risk of heart disease. It reduces the spread of atherosclerosis. Researchers in Sweden found the drinking rooibos tea could inhibit ACE, a specific enzyme that plays a role in the development of Cardiovascular disease.

AGE DEFYING

Rooibos can reduce the effects of aging due to its abundance of the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD). Scientists at the University of Aarhus in Denmark show SOD plays an important role in preventing damage and binds directly to collagen protecting it from oxidative breakdown.

RESTORES IMMUNE FUNCTION

Researchers in Japan found the active ingredients in rooibos restored immune function in immuno-supressed rats.

ANTI INFLAMMATORY

Rooibos can help decrease inflammation in the body lowering the risk of many diseases.

REDUCES ALLERGIES

Rooibos works as a bronchodilator to help improve symptoms of sneezing and coughing and it contains Quercetin which blocks mast cells that release histamine, the enzyme that triggers an allergic response.

BUILD STRONG BONES

Rooibos contains calcium, manganese, and flouride that help build strong bones. It also contains luteolin and orientin, which have shown to have the potential to increase mineral content in bones thus promoting bone density and preventing bones loss with age.
